Ming-poi kih graduated from the College of Medicine, Kaohsiung Medical University in 1989. He completed his clinical training in the Department of Internal Medicine and Hepatology at the Kaohsiung Medical University Hospital in 1994. Since then, he has focused his research on viral hepatitis and liver disease, both of which are prevalent in Taiwan. After completing his PhD at Kaohsiung Medical University, Dr. Yu joined the faculty of the Department of Internal Medicine at this same institution as an Assistant Professor in 2000. He became Associate Professor in 2003, Professor of medicine in 2006 and was promoted to Distinguished Professor in 2013. A board-certified internist and gastroenterologist, he is recognised as a Clinical Principal Investigator (CPI) by the Academy of Pharmaceutical Physicians and Investigators. In addition to his extensive teaching experience gained at the University Hospital, Professor Yu has published almost 200 articles in prestigious journals, including those on the molecular biology, viral kinetics, hepatocarcinogenesis and the optimization of antiviral treatment. He is the Academic Editor of PLoS ONE, Honorary Editors-in-Chief of World J Gastroenterol, Guest Editor of Hepatitis Research Treatment and Current Hepatitis Reports, member of Editorial Board of The Open Infectious Diseases J, and Advisory Editorial Board of The Korean J Hepatol. He also frequently serves as the reviewer of major international journals in Medicine, Gastroenterology, and Hepatology and hepatitis research, such as The Lancet, Gut, J Hepatol, Thorax, J Infect Disease, Antiviral Therapy, J Viral Hepatitis, Tissue Antigen, Translational Research, J Medical Virology, Liver International, J Gastroenterol Hepatol, and Hepatol International.
