Abstract : A well-organized and efficient orthodontic service for any given population requires evaluation of therapeutic orthodontic needs and their difficulty the purpose is to assess the treatment need and the malocclusion complexity, and degree of improvement after completion of treatment. A randomly picked 60 pairs of study models (30 male and 30 female) were involved in this study for patients attending an orthodontic clinic at the College of the Dentistry/ University of Baghdad seeking treatment. The ICON scores were collected directly from the study model, photo and case sheet records. SPSS software version 25 has been used to analyze the results, 78.3 % of samples categorized as orthodontic treatment need, 21.6% belonged to the easy/mild categories and 58.3% classified as difficult or very difficult. There were no significant age or gender differences in the pre-treatment and in post-treatment ICON score. 98.3% scored as easy/mild categories post-treatment and 76.6% were greatly improved cases, substantially improved in 15%, while 6.6% moderately improved and only 1.7% was minimally improved. Assessing patients attending the hospital using ICON are valid to give priority to the most needed cases and can be applied before deciding to finish the case depending on the improvement grade.

Abstract : One of the reasons for hearing impairment is due to excessive noise exposure. These encounters can cause permanent hearing loss, which can impair verbal communication with others and decrease the quality of a person's social life. The most prevalent place of exposure to excessive noise and the most common reason of noise-induced hearing impairment is noise exposure in the military environment. The purpose of this study was to investigate the prevalence of auditory disorders in conscripts and the role of routinely audiometric screening. In this cross-sectional study, the invited soldiers to the Islamic Republic of Iran Army were investigated in Tehran. Then, their data such as age, history of exposure to high-intensity noise, history of hearing impairment in the family, history of ear trauma were collected by a questionnaire. Audiometric tests included pure tone audiometry, tympanometry, and acoustic reflex was conducted. The presence of hearing impairment and its type (conductive - sensorineural) were evaluated according to audiometric tests and its relationship with possible risk factors. According to our results, among the 207 studied soldiers, the prevalence of hearing impairment was 14%, and the most prevalent type was sensorineural hearing impairment type (SNHL) with a prevalence of 7.7% and the highest rate of conflict was in high frequencies. Sensorineural hearing loss had a significant relationship with the history of hearing loss in the family. Also, there was a significant relationship between conductive hearing loss and ear trauma. Routine hearing screening including otoscopic ear examination and basic and comprehensive audiometric tests, impedance and acoustic reflex, seems essential for all soldiers at the beginning of their military service and military training and identifies probable ear disorders.

Abstract : Breast cancer (BC)is the most frequent cancers occurring among women. It is the leading cause of women mortality & morbidity all over the world, among Saudi women there was a significant increase of the incidence of breast malignancy, breast self-examination (BSE) is a simple, very low-cost, non-invasive procedure can be used for early detection of breast cancer at an early stage. The objective of this study is to assess the knowledge & practice knowledge of women in Najran city/ KSA about BSE as a screening method for early detection of BC. A Cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted during 2019 to assess the knowledge and practice of BSE in 449 female samples picked randomly in Najran / KSA. A questionnaire was designed for data collection, SPSS used for data analysis. The finding of this study find that (52.2%) of the study participants between 18-28 years old (72%) completed their education university, 55.5%have good total score knowledge, and 40.3% had practice knowledge's score of BSE and poor total knowledge score about mammogram, there is significant correlation between female knowledge's, practice knowledge's and level of education, while there is no correlation between female knowledge's, practices knowledge's and age group. This study showed that the majority of participants practice breast self-examination (BSE) each month, which contributes to increasing awareness of what is normal for the breasts, the total knowledge score of BSE was excellent and its practice knowledge's too while the relationship between them is significant p-value 0.000. Hence, the continuation of frequent community-based awareness programs and training courses is needed so that women awareness and practice will be increased toward BSE, which helps to pick up any abnormal changes in the breasts and look for medical advice promptly..

Abstract : Hypertension is still the most important risk factor for cardiovascular events. The number of hypertension in young adults is increasing. A deep insight into the clinical profile will help in devising a preventive strategy, in order to alleviate the morbidity and mortality of cardiovascular disease. However, the data about hypertensive heart disease in the young (<45 years) is limited. A cross sectional study was performed. The hypertensive heart disease was diagnosed by echocardiography. A total 130 young hypertensive heart disease cases were identified from 2016-2018. Hypertensive heart disease was determined using European Society of Cardiology/European Society of Hypertension 2018 guideline and diastolic dysfunction was determined using American Society of Echocardiography 2016 guideline. The mean age of subjects was 39.35 (±4.6) years, male patient was 67 (51.5%). Clinical presentation of the patient was hypertensive heart disease (46.99%), hypertensive heart disease with coronary artery disease (43.1%), and hypertensive heart disease with stroke (10%). Mean ejection fraction (EF) of this study was 55.86 (±15.2) %, the number of normal EF was 63.1%, preserved EF 3.1%, mid-range EF 13.1%, reduced EF 20.8%. The mean left ventricular mass was 246.92 (±90.5) gram, left ventricular mass index was 144.77 (±50.8) gram/m2. Left ventricular hyperthrophy was classified as concentric remodelling 12.3%, eccentric hyperthrophy 27.7%, and concentric hyperthropy 60%. Diastolic function was assessed, normal 10%, grade I 52.3%, grade II 18.5%, grade III 8.5%, and the rest 10.8% cannot be measured. There were a significant number of young hypertensive adults with various echocardiographic abnormalities. Prevention of hypertension should begin earlier.

Abstract : Synthetic vertebral body replacement has been widely used recently to treat different spinal conditions affecting the anterior column. They arrange from trauma, infections and even tumor conditions. In this study, we assess the functional outcome of this modality in different spinal conditions. Thirty-six cases operated from Oct. 2010 to Dec. 2017. Twelve patients had spinal type A3 fractures, 11 cases with spinal tuberculosis, and 13 cases with spinal tumors. They were followed clinically for a mean period of 2.4 years. All the cases were approached anteriorly. Seven cases had a postoperative infection. No neurological worsening reported. We had dramatic neurological improvement in all spinal tuberculosis cases. Mortality recorded in only four cases with metastatic spinal tumors during the mean period of follow up. Karnofsky performance status scale showed statistically significant change for spinal tuberculosis, and tumor cases during the follow-up period, but there was no significant change in cases of spinal type A3 fractures. The positive outcome of this surgery makes it recommended for properly picked patients especially with spinal tuberculosis and tumors.
