A CLINICAL STUDY OF DVT (DEEP VEIN THROMBOSIS) IN LOWER LIMBS IN PATIENTS ADMITTED IN OUR HOSPITAL
Abstract
: Deep venous thrombosis accounts for major number of deaths in patients who are hospitalized. The present study was done at our center to assess the occurrence of DVT in patients in surgical wards and the effectiveness of the various standard prophylactic methods in preventing DVT. A prospective study held from sept 2018 to Aug 2020 in patients undergoing major surgeries aged 18-60 years for a period of 2 years was conducted in our centre. Detailed history and thorough clinical examination as per the proforma with consent was done. Using Caprini score, the treatment was given based on ACCP guidelines and results tabulated. Maximum number of patients with DVT were between 51-60 years. According to Caprini risk assessment score, each group had 14, 37, 22 and 27 patients respectively. Among the 9 patients who developed DVT, 4 had moderate risk and 5 had high risk of developing DVT. The effectivity of prophylaxis as per ACCP guidelines in high risk group was 81.4 %. At the end of our study the conclusion was that all patients that are taken up/planned for major surgeries requires a detailed history on various factors which may lead to DVT post-surgery.
