Impact of COVID-19 on mental health and psychology of Palestinian nurses during the outbreak.
Abstract
: Health care providers placed under exceptional demand and substantial psychological stress, as being the main persons, and the front line workers involved in the screening, treatment, and dealing with COVID -19 patients. to assess anxiety and perceived stress among the Palestinian nurses. Cross-sectional design was used, a convenient sample of 242 nurses working at Palestinian hospitals was selected to assess their anxiety and perceived stress. Self-administered online questionnaires, which consisted of a general questionnaire, the Self-Rating Anxiety Scale, and Perceived Stress Scale-14 Questionnaires was used. Multiple linear regression and Pearson correlation coefficients were calculated to assess the associations among anxiety and stress. the majority of the participated nurses (88.0%) exhibited relatively moderated level of perceived stress, also results showed that although more than half of the participants, 129 (53.3%) reported no anxiety symptoms, 102(42.1%) had mild anxiety, while among participants only 11 (4.5%) reported symptoms indicate moderate anxiety. the study showed that negative psychosocial health (mainly perceived stress & anxiety) is a substantial problem among nurses working in hospitals during COVID-19 outbreak. This unexpected and highly infectious outbreak poses a great challenge for all health care providers including nurses
