Abstract : Osteoporosis is a major growing public health problem with impact that crosses medical, social, and economic lines. Bone mineral density (BMD) is a standard measure for the diagnosis of osteoporosis and assessment of fracture risk. To assess the influence of some reproductive factors (menarche age, menopause age, number of pregnancies, number of miscarriages, spacing, breastfeeding duration and reproductive years) on the lumbar vertebral Bone mineral density (BMD). In a total of 100 postmenopausal women were studied using cross sectional study, some socio-demographic and reproductive factors (menarche age, menopause age, number of pregnancies, number of miscarriages, spacing, breastfeeding duration and reproductive years) were recorded and measuring the Bone mineral density (BMD) was done by dual X- ray absorptiometry (DEXA) machine at the level of lumbar spine. The correlation of reproductive factors on the lumbar BMD were assessed using spearman and Pearson correlations independent samples T-test and one-way ANOVA. The results showed that the lumbar vertebral BMD has a significant negative association with the age and the years since menopause and positive association with number of miscarriages also there were significant differences in the lumbar vertebral BMD between the groups that have been categorized according to the menarche age, menopause age and the reproductive years. Other reproductive factors like spacing between pregnancies, the age at first pregnancy, the number of pregnancies and the breastfeeding duration were not found to be significantly associated with the lumbar BMD. Regarding the reproductive factors, only the years since menopause and number of miscarriages were found to be associated with the lumbar vertebral bone mineral density (BMD)
