THE MIMICKING GUT: A CASE REPORT OF MIS-C PRESENTING AS ACUTE APPENDICITIS
Abstract
: Multisystemic Inflammatory Syndrome in Children (MIS-C) following COVID 19 infection usually presents clinically as high-grade fever, rash, and conjunctival congestion. Rarely (MIS-C) can present as surgical abdominal emergencies resulting in delayed diagnosis. We present a case of a 16-year-old female with clinical presentation and CT findings suggestive of acute appendicitis with perforation and shock. Intraoperative findings of chronic appendicitis without perforation and further deterioration in shock made us think of alternative diagnoses for the presenting features. This case highlights that whenever a child presents with query acute abdomen, MIS-C should be ruled out as a differential with children with appendicitis-like features prior to any surgical exploration.
