Abstract : There is an increase in the incidence of the intertrochanteric fracture due to the rise in the life expectancy of the people. The intertrochanteric fracture is commonly surgically treated by either DHS or PFN. The hospital database was searched for all intertrochanteric fractures over three years (2015 through 2018). This is a retrospective study done in 100 patients with intertrochanteric fractures treated by PFN (66 patients) and DHS (34 patients). Both the devices were compared in terms of complications and outcomes. The various complications that occurred in patients with intertrochanteric fracture treated are bed sores(15%), shortening more than 1cm(10%), reoperation due to implant related complications(8%), varus collapse(5%), persistent hip pain(5%), restriction of hip movements(5%), deep vein thrombosis(3%), screw migration (3%), failure to achieve closed reduction(3%), compression lag screw cutout (3%), fracture of lateral cortex(2%), mortality(2%), post-operative wound infection(2%), periprosthetic fracture (1%), mean blood loss in DHS(300ml) whereas in PFN(200ml)..

Abstract : Simulation-based learning has been proposed to improve both clinical and practical reasoning skills. The purpose of this study was to evaluate students’ perceptions of two different simulation techniques in their dental pre-clinical teaching. A survey questionnaire was distributed to undergraduate students, which consisted of different statements regarding the two different simulation techniques. It consisted of 3 main domains: general questions, questions focused on integrated and simulated-based teaching methods, and open-ended questions. A total of 50 students with a gender distribution of 38% males and 62% of females responded to the questionnaire with a 100% response rate. Of these, 98% of students accepted that it was easy to work on the simulated models, while about 48% of them perceived that a combination of simulation and video demonstration was more suitable. 96% were more confident in performing the pulpotomy procedure, and 98% of the participants agreed that integrated teaching methodology would be more useful as compared to only the simulation method while preparing a stainless-steel crown. All the participants agreed on the future implementation of integrated simulation-based learning in adjunct with other teaching methodologies. Future follow-up studies with surveys are recommended to evaluate the complete effectiveness of these methods in dental preclinical training..

Abstract : Bilateral variations were observed in the triceps brachii muscle in a human cadaver. This novel variation demonstrated, few fibers of the lateral head of triceps arising from the long head of triceps in the form of a thick aponeurosis. This arrangement was observed in both, right and left upper limbs of the cadaver. Additionally, we found the presence of an anomalous thick muscle belly, deep to the long head of triceps muscle. This muscle passed directly over the neurovascular bundle at the radial groove. Additionally, this muscle belly gave origin to three fleshy slips. One of the slips joined the medial head, one joined the lateral head, and the most prominent slip joined the long head of the triceps muscle. The close proximity between the anomalous muscle and the neurovascular structures is clinically significant as it might cause radial nerve palsy and arterial compression. Hence, knowledge regarding such unusual anatomical variations of triceps muscles are of utmost importance in the conduct of arthroscopic surgeries around the shoulder and in symptoms related to nerve compression syndrome..

Abstract : Epilepsy is one of the frequently occurring neurologic disorders within childhood with a cumulative lifetime incidence of about 3%. MRI is the imaging modality of choice for diagnosing the cause of epilepsy. Objective of the study was to evaluate the role of MRI in the detection and characterisation of lesions in epilepsy among the pediatric population. A prospective study was conducted among the Pediatric age group with epileptic seizures referred for MRI Brain to our Department of Radio-diagnosis. Patients with febrile seizures and known contraindications to MRI were excluded. The demographic details, birth history, family history, clinical history and examination details were collected using a clinical proforma. The participants were then subjected to an MRI Brain scan according to the protocol. The data collected were entered in MS Excel and analysed using statistical software. The study population had 41.5% subjects with less than 1 year of age and 33% in the 6 to 12 years age group with a slight male preponderance of 1.3: 1 and mean age of 46.7 months. 85.8% of the population had generalized onset while 9.4% focal onset seizures. Anoxia and Hypoxic-Ischemic Encephalopathy (35.8%) was the most common etiology followed by developmental malformations (22.6%) and infections (9.4%). 22 (20.75%) subjects had Cystic encephalomalacia with gliosis followed by 9 (8.49%) had Periventricular Leukomalacia. It was concluded that the MRI Brain scan helped in identifying the diagnosis and etiology of pediatric seizure and paved way for the treatment of the patient medically as well as surgically..

Abstract : Henna leaves (Lawsomia inermis Linn.) is traditional medicine that used to treat diabetes mellitus in Indonesia. Previous studies reported that Henna leaves extract showed in vitro and in vivo hypoglycemic activities. In the present study, for the first time antihyperglycemic activity of Henna leaves extract in aloxan-induced diabetic zebrafish (Danio rerio) was investigated. Four different extracts using n-hexane, ethyl acetate, ethanol 96% and distilled water were prepared by maceration technique. Each of them (2.50 mg/mL) was given to the alloxan-induced diabetic zebrafish, daily (for 3 days treatment period). Blood glucose levels of zebrafish were measured on 1st, 2nd, and 3rd days after the treatment. The distilled water was administered as a negative control and metformin (0.23 mg/mL) was administered as the positive control. The blood glucose levels were analyzed by using two-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) continued by Tukey test at p<0.05. All extracts were resulted significant antihyperglycemic effects in time-dependent manner (p<0.05). Furthermore, the extracts of n-hexane, ethyl acetate and ethanol 96% were exhibited antihyperglycemic effects, similar with metformin (p>0.05). The L. inermis Linn. leaves extracts are potential to be developed as new antidiabetic substances.
